A note up front: Charles (me) wrote this with help from an AI assistant and then checked each claim against the page it came from, correcting anything that didn't hold up. The research is desk work done on 6 October 2026, from each company's plan pages, help centres and terms; I have not run side-by-side sessions in these apps for this piece, so read it as a sourced comparison rather than a hands-on test.
Anyone searching "ourdream ai alternatives" has usually hit one specific wall. Maybe the free account felt like a locked demo, or dreamcoins drained faster than expected once video came into it, or the $59.99 Deluxe invoice looked silly next to what you actually use, or a card got declined and PayPal wasn't an option. Each problem points somewhere different, so the sections below follow the reason you're leaving instead of ranking apps.
Quick routing:
- Pictures and short clips are the point: Candy AI, with a token budget you must watch.
- You want a lower yearly bill: Candy AI's annual plan, or simply moving from Deluxe down to Ourdream's own yearly Premium.
- You hate credits that vanish: Lovescape, whose chips are documented as never expiring.
- You'd rather chat with ready-made personalities: JOI AI.
- Voice messages matter most: Kupid AI, if weekly or yearly billing doesn't put you off.
Before you switch: what you give up, and what follows you anyway
Your characters and chat history probably stay behind. The help centre has no export tool, but the Ourdream privacy summary (June 2026) says you can request a portable copy of your data at trust@ourdream.ai. Its account-deletion article (edited 3 August 2026) says deleting wipes generations, unpublished characters, chat history and any leftover dreamcoins, with no refund, and that a deleted account can't be restored. If there's a chance you'll come back, cancel rather than delete.
Cancelling isn't instant, and the coin rules disagree. You cancel at ourdream.ai/profile and the plan stays usable through the last day you've already been billed for. What happens to unspent dreamcoins afterwards depends on which help article you read: the cancellation page (edited 5 December 2025) says they remain until the billing period ends and aren't restored if you resubscribe, while the "subscription expires" page (20 February 2026) says "Coins do not expire!" Plan on spending them before the period runs out.
Your pictures get blurred, not deleted. Ourdream's help centre says images and videos become blurred once you're no longer subscribed and come back if you resubscribe.
Refunds are narrow. Ourdream's refund article (13 February 2026) rules out a refund once over 25 per cent of what you bought is gone, and nothing paid in crypto comes back.
Every alternative here meters media too. Candy has tokens, JOI has Neurons, Lovescape has chips, Kupid caps photos, videos and voice minutes per week. Switching changes the meter; it doesn't remove one.
Reason 1: "Nothing works unless I pay"
Without a plan, Ourdream's coin guide (edited 2 March 2026) charges one dreamcoin for every message you send and locks most features away, and a separate article says creating images or videos needs a subscription. Its help centre also says it doesn't hand out free dreamcoins (Discord contests aside), even though one of its marketing pages mentions 55 coins at sign-up.
No rival here is generous either:
- Candy AI's free-user help page (updated 30 September 2026) lists five chat messages in total, across all characters, plus one custom character and one image.
- Kupid AI's plan table shows 15 free messages, and its free tier remembers your last 30 messages.
- JOI AI's help centre says a free account gets 6 lifetime image generations, which are stored for 7 days.

Reason 2: "Video and images burn my coins too fast"
On Ourdream, a voice call eats 50 dreamcoins per minute, a standard clip 100 dreamcoins for every five seconds (a full minute tops out at 1,200), Ultra Quality clips 200 each, and adding audio to a clip 20 per second. Premium refills 1,000 coins a month, and top-ups need an active subscription.
Candy AI is the visuals pick among these five: in-chat images, generated clips and the token-gated "Live Action" mode that its help centre describes as Premium-only. That's also the catch. A Candy subscription includes 100 tokens a month, added on your renewal date; images, video, voice and private content packs draw on them, while plain chatting doesn't. Unlocking one "Exclusive Character" takes a set number of tokens (Candy's example is 200), so a busy month means buying more. Candy's Terms and an older help article also disagree about whether unused tokens survive cancelling, so don't bank on carrying them over. Our Is Candy AI free guide does the token maths.

Lovescape is the other route if you dislike credits with an expiry. Its help article on chips (updated 4 October 2026) says chips are for subscribers only, don't expire over time, are non-refundable, and go chiefly on tools such as image generation. Lovescape doesn't publish its prices on an official page I could read; checkout reports from outside reviewers put Premium at about $19.99 a month (third-party figure). Reason 3: "The bill is too high"
What each plan page or help centre says today:
- Ourdream: Premium is $19.99 monthly or a single $119.88 yearly charge ($9.99 a month). Deluxe is $59.99 monthly or $359.88 yearly; the upgrade page's code lists 5,000 coins monthly, Genius models at no coin cost and triple chat memory.
- Candy AI: first month $9.99, after that $13.99 per month; $26.97 every three months; $47.88 a year. Checkout text also shows a two-weekly option at $9.79.
- Kupid AI: Pro runs $12.99 each week, with $179 as the annual option, while Ultra runs $24.99 each week, with $299 as the annual option. There is no monthly plan, and a countdown "Autumn Discount 75% Off" banner sat on the page when I looked.
- JOI AI: Premium prices only appear after you log in, and JOI's terms say prices can vary by region and promotion.
Before you leave, consider the cheapest fix of all: if you're on Ourdream Deluxe monthly and rarely use the extra coins, Premium yearly costs $119.88 against $719.88 for twelve months of Deluxe. If you're leaving Ourdream outright, Candy's yearly plan is the lowest headline figure here, with the token caveat above. Reason 4: "I can't pay the way I want"
Ourdream's help centre says it doesn't accept PayPal. When a card fails, its help centre points to a different card, crypto, or a G2A reseller code you enter under "Redeem Code" (coin codes only redeem on an active subscription).
Lovescape's Premium article lists Visa and Mastercard cards plus cryptocurrency and says charges appear under a neutral description on bank statements. Candy's refund rules are worth reading before you pay: a request must arrive within 24 hours of the payment, more than 20 used tokens disqualifies it, and only subscriptions bought directly by debit or credit card qualify (help article updated 7 September 2026).
Reason 5: "I'm tired of building characters myself"
If writing detailed characters on Ourdream has started to feel like homework, JOI AI leans the other way, with ready-made personalities you open and talk to. Its pricing works differently too: JOI's terms (last updated 4 June 2026) say romantic, erotic or explicit content sits outside Premium and is paid for in Neurons, and they list the rates: reading a single romantic message takes 4 Neurons, opening a photo can take up to 120, and opening a video up to 1,900; the theme sets the exact cost. JOI's refund page treats an activated subscription as normally final, with exceptions for fraud, a one-time accidental Neuron purchase, or a subscription JOI itself ends. Reason 6: "I want to hear her, not just read"
Ourdream charges for voice by the minute in dreamcoins. Kupid AI bundles voice messages into its plan table instead: 12 minutes a week on Pro and 35 on Ultra, alongside 25 or 75 photos and 8 or 25 videos a week. Memory also grows with the plan: the table shows the last 30 messages on free, the last 100 on Pro and an infinity sign on Ultra. A short exit checklist
- Spend or accept losing your dreamcoins before the paid period ends.
- Save any images or clips you want while they're still unblurred.
- Cancel at ourdream.ai/profile; deleting is separate, permanent and takes 24 to 48 hours.
- If you think you qualify for a refund, ask through "Request Help" early, before you've used much.
- On the new app, read the free-tier and refund pages before you enter a card.

That comes down to your reason for going. Candy AI suits people who want images and clips, Lovescape suits people who hate expiring credits, JOI AI suits people who want ready-made characters, and Kupid AI suits voice-message fans who accept weekly or yearly billing.
Is there a free alternative to Ourdream AI?
Not a meaningfully free one among these five. Candy's free account allows five messages in total, Kupid's 15, and JOI's free account comes with six image generations for your whole account.
Is any alternative cheaper than Ourdream?
On headline prices, Candy's yearly plan ($47.88) is the lowest here, against $119.88 for Ourdream's yearly Premium. Media still costs tokens on top.
Do I lose my dreamcoins if I leave Ourdream?
Ourdream's help centre gives two answers, so assume you might. Use them before your billing period ends, and remember that deleting your account erases them with no refund.
Can my Ourdream characters come with me?
Not directly. The Ourdream privacy summary says you can request a portable export of your data at trust@ourdream.ai, but plan on rebuilding characters by hand on another app.
