Everything here comes from JOI's terms and help centre, the checkout prices independent reviewers reported and public user feedback, collected in September 2026. It is a research summary, not a personal diary.
The one-minute summary
What makes JOI AI different is its creator category: official AI versions of real content creators who licensed their likeness, next to original and community-made characters. Checkout prices for annual Premium have come in under $50 a year. The catch is Neurons, a second currency charged per item for some mature-content messages, photos and videos. With a budget, JOI is good value; without one, the bill can surprise you.
A good match for: fans of creator-style personas and people who want images, short clips and voice in one place
Probably not for you if: you want one flat fee with no extra credits, or you need a neutral bank descriptor
First things first: what is JOI AI?
Put simply, JOI AI is a website where adults 18+ chat with AI characters. There are three kinds: Joi Originals, community-made characters and creators, which JOI's about page describes as official digital versions of real people. You can filter by age range, gender and many themes, or make your own character.
For users outside the US, the terms name Novi Limited (Nicosia, Cyprus) as the provider; for US users, independent reviewers point to Lanoto Solutions Inc. (New York). JOI uses two domains, joi.ai for the general experience and joi.com for a separate mature-content tier, and reviewers say a single account works on both. Safety basics before you sign up
- Data. The terms say deleting your account is irreversible and removes associated data under the privacy policy. As with any companion app, chats are stored by the provider, so do not share details that could identify you. - Content rules. JOI's terms ban mature content involving minors, non-consensual intimate imagery, deepfakes and depictions of identifiable real people without consent, and hateful or extremist material. Moderation is automated, with human review in "difficult or suspicious" cases, according to independent reviewers.
- 18+ only. JOI AI is for adults 18+. The terms require users to be adults. Age is confirmed at an on-site prompt, and JOI's help centre says Premium or explicit content may trigger an extra VerifyMyAge check (facial age estimation or ID, depending on region).
- Spending. Per-item pricing makes it easy to overspend. Consider buying a fixed Neuron pack rather than topping up repeatedly.
Should you start here?
A good fit: people interested in creator personas who want images, clips and voice as well, and who like the idea of a cheap annual plan. You will do best if you check the Neuron prices first and set your extra spending in advance.
A poor fit: anyone who hates credit systems and wants a single price, anyone whose main use would be long voice calls, and anyone who needs billing that keeps the platform name off their statement.
What you can do on it
Images
You can generate images from prompts in the AI tools area and in chat. Reviewers cite a Premium allowance of roughly 50 image generations a month before Neurons are needed.
Creator characters
The feature rivals lack: chat with AI versions of creators who joined JOI's creator partnership programme. Some of them reportedly cost extra Neurons to unlock.
Chat models
Chat is the heart of JOI, with several models to switch between. Independent reviewers say the Premium-only "Saturn" model stays in character best. Long cross-session memory is advertised; an "8,000-message" figure quoted by one reviewer could not be verified. An August 2026 short-session audit reportedly showed good recall of seeded facts, and the roleplay ended immediately on request.
Building your own
Premium gives you a custom character, and reviewers report that each extra one costs roughly 1,000 Neurons.
Voice
Calls come with Premium but are charged by time, reportedly around 2,000 Neurons for every five minutes. That makes lengthy calls one of the most expensive uses of the platform.
Dream Clips video
Five-second clips, roughly 5 a month on Premium according to reviewers; after that they cost Neurons.
JOI is the main platform built around official AI versions of creators, so it is the obvious pick if that interests you.

Understanding the prices
JOI does not publish Premium prices on a public page. Plans only appear after you create an account, and the terms say prices "may vary based on region, length of subscription" and promotions. The figures below come from third-party reviewers who reached the checkout, not from JOI's own public pages.

Not one price. Reports from some regions put the monthly price higher, around $16.79–$17.77, and promo codes regularly lower the longer plans.
Refunds. Limited to three cases within 14 days (proven card fraud, a first-time accidental Neuron purchase, termination by JOI), according to independent summaries; otherwise subscriptions are generally non-refundable once activated. Cancellation is under Settings → My Subscriptions, and per-character subscriptions are cancelled separately.
Payment and billing. The US terms list credit/debit cards, Google Pay or Apple Pay where supported, and cryptocurrency where available. The charge appears as the Joi domain on your statement (joi.ai or joi.com, depending on the version of the terms): clear, but not discreet.
Real-world spending. Think of the roughly $4 a month as covering chat plus a media allowance; frequent mature-content images, clips, creator unlocks and voice calls are extra. Independent reviews estimate active users spend between $20 and $80 a month. That is an estimate, not an official number.
Packs, and a second balance. Reported Neuron packs: 500 for $9.99 up to 10,000 for $99.99 (a few sources quote a bit more, so check in-app). Premium adds a "Coins" balance too, and no exchange rate to Neurons has been published.
What Neurons cost you. JOI's terms describe Neurons as paying for things "not included in Subscription": reading a message costs 4, a photo view up to 120 and a video view up to 1,900, depending on theme.
Beginner questions
Is there a free version?
Yes, the Basic account: limited chat, a handful of images and a small Neuron balance. Premium is needed for mature-content settings, voice and video. Under JOI's own terms, romantic or explicit messages are paid for in Neurons (4 to read one), so a free account is not a free route to adult chat.
How much does Premium cost for a beginner?
Prices are not public. In August 2026, independent reviewers saw $13.99 for a month, $20.99 for three and $47.99 for a year at checkout; yours may vary by region and promotion.
What exactly are Neurons?
An in-app currency for content not included in your subscription. The terms list 4 Neurons to read a romantic message, up to 120 per photo view and up to 1,900 per video view.
Are creator characters actual people?
They are AI characters based on real creators who licensed their likeness through JOI's creator programme, according to JOI. The person is not on the other end.
What if I want a refund?
Activated subscriptions are generally non-refundable. Within 14 days, the policy covers specific cases such as card fraud or a first accidental Neuron purchase.
