Kupid AI Alternatives: What Its 'Unlimited Free Chat' Really Includes and Where to Go Instead (2026)

Disclosure: this guide contains affiliate links. If you join Kupid AI, Candy AI, Ourdream AI, JOI AI or Lovescape through them, I'm paid a commission at no cost to you; nothing else named here pays me. Adults (18+) only. Sources: the apps' pricing pages, help docs and terms plus public user reports, all checked in October 2026. I have not tested any of these apps first-hand, so read this as research rather than experience.

Kupid AI's homepage makes a bold offer: "Sign up and get Unlimited Chat for Free." Open its own subscriptions page, though, and the comparison table tells a narrower story. This guide sets the two side by side, explains what the free plan and the paid tiers actually contain, and then matches each common reason for giving up on Kupid with a better-suited app. Every pick opens with its weak spots.

If you want the full background on Kupid (voice notes, the company behind it, privacy basics), our plain-English Kupid AI review covers that. This page is about the gap between the promise and the plan table.

The free plan, according to Kupid's own table

On 5 October 2026 the plan table on kupid.ai/subscriptions listed three columns, Free, Pro and Ultra:

Row in Kupid's table Free Pro Ultra
Messages 15 Unlimited Unlimited
Photos None 25 a week 75 a week
Videos None 8 a week 25 a week
Voice messages None 12 min a week 35 min a week
"She Remembers" Last 30 messages Last 100 messages Unlimited
Talk to her (voice input) No Yes Yes
Response speed / queue priority Standard Fast / high Fastest / highest
Companions you can create 1 4 8

So the free plan is a 15-message sample, not open-ended chat. The table gives no period for those 15 messages; one independent review that went through the limits describes them as 15 in total rather than per day. The homepage also offers free pictures for installing the web app, and the site's interface text mentions free trials that start with a $0.50 card check that is refunded, so promotions may change what a given visitor sees. Treat the table as the baseline and the homepage line as marketing.

What that means in practice: 15 messages is enough to tell whether a character's writing style suits you, and nothing more. You can't hear the voice notes, which are the main reason people pay for Kupid, and a 30-message memory barely matters when you only have 15 messages to spend.

What Kupid charges once the sample runs out

Kupid's subscriptions page does show prices publicly. From the same page (US dollars as shown to my connection; regions and promotions can differ):

  • Pro: $12.99 a week, or $179 a year.
  • Ultra: $24.99 a week, or $299 a year.
  • Lifetime: $777 once. Note that the lifetime description in the page's interface text lists 35 minutes of voice a month, while Ultra's table shows 35 minutes a week. Confirm before paying.
  • No monthly plan. The page's own data carries no monthly price for either tier.

The arithmetic is the important part. Paid weekly for a year, Pro comes to about $675 and Ultra to about $1,299, roughly four times the yearly prices for the same allowances. A countdown banner advertising 75% off sat on top of the page when I checked. One independent review points out that the timer runs a seasonal discount out of season, and a search-engine copy of the same page showed it as an "Easter Discount", so don't let the clock rush you.

Three more points from the official terms:

  1. No refunds. "All sales of digital products are final and non-refundable."
  2. Cancelling means contacting Kupid. The terms say to get in touch with support to stop rebilling, although the site's code also contains a self-service cancellation flow with retention offers.
  3. Bonus coins expire. Coins that come with a plan, a trial or a promotion expire six months after they're credited; purchased packs don't.

The interface text also warns cancelling users that custom companions, created images, received voice messages and chat history with premium characters "will be deleted in 30 days". Save anything you care about before you leave.

When Kupid is still the right call

None of this makes Kupid a bad product. Independent reviewers consistently rate its voice notes among the best in the budget tier, companions can message you first when you've been away, and the Pro yearly plan works out to about $3.44 a week.

Go here if you mainly want voice notes and a companion who checks in, you're happy to pay for a year up front, and you'll switch the toggle from weekly to yearly before checkout. See Kupid AI's plan table for yourself.

If one of the reasons below is why Kupid isn't working for you, look further.

If 15 messages wasn't enough to decide: JOI AI

Weak spots first. JOI doesn't show plan prices before sign-up, so the figures I have are third-party: about $47.99 a year for Premium, reported at checkout in August 2026. Anything outside the subscription costs Neurons, a second currency; per JOI's terms, unlocking a single video can run as high as 1,900 Neurons and a photo as high as 120. Mature settings, voice and the stronger models are for paying members.

What it does better than Kupid. Independent reviews describe JOI's free Basic account as limited chat on the basic models, and JOI's help centre allows 6 image generations over the life of the account. Reports on a daily message cap vary, but the terms are clear that romantic or explicit messages cost Neurons, so any extra time is for ordinary conversation, not adult chat. Its licensed creator personas also give each character a defined personality from the start.

Go here if you want a longer free look and a cheap annual upgrade later, and you'll budget Neurons separately. Our JOI AI review explains the currency; open a free JOI AI account.

If the companion keeps forgetting: Ourdream AI

Weak spots first. There is no free chat. Without a membership every message costs a coin, and Ourdream's help centre is explicit that no free coins are handed out (other Ourdream pages say you get 55 coins at sign-up). Membership is $19.99 monthly or $119.88 annually. Public reports call its video clips unreliable.

What it does better than Kupid. Memory you can see. According to Ourdream's official guide, an automatic log of the conversation is rebuilt about once per 20 AI replies, plus pinned memories of up to 15,000 characters that you write and edit yourself. Compare that with Kupid's 30 or 100 recent messages and no editing panel.

Go here if you're building a story over weeks and want to correct what the character believes. More detail in our Ourdream AI review and our guide to which companion apps remember what; compare Ourdream AI's plans.

If weekly photo caps are the problem: Candy AI, the visuals pick

Weak spots first. Candy runs on tokens. Premium comes with 100 tokens a month, and every picture, voice clip or video is paid for out of that allowance, so a media-heavy month means topping up. Detailed memory is tied to the active chat; resetting or deleting a chat wipes it, per Candy's help centre. There's no meaningful free plan, only a short trial.

What it does better than Kupid. Visuals, and clearer billing. Candy bundles image generation, voice messages, video and its Live Action feature in one subscription, and its subscriptions page lists unlimited text messages on Premium. Prices on 5 October 2026: a first month at $9.99 that renews at $13.99, a quarter at $26.97, or a year at $47.88 (roughly $3.99 monthly). A true monthly option is exactly what Kupid lacks.

Go here if pictures and a consistent look matter more to you than voice check-ins, and you'll keep an eye on the token balance. Tokens are unpacked in our Candy AI review and in more depth in the Candy AI write-up on GitBook; check Candy AI's current plans. If you later outgrow Candy too, see where Candy users go next.

If you'd rather design the character than pick one: Lovescape

Weak spots first. The memory upgrade is expensive. In Lovescape's own February 2026 pricing post, "Advanced AI chat memory" belongs to Creative PRO alone, a $359.88 annual plan; the Premium tier goes without. Reviewers mention repetition in long sessions, and video eats chips quickly.

What it does better than Kupid. Kupid caps free users at one custom companion and Pro at four. Lovescape builds its whole pitch around the character studio, and its pricing post says free accounts can create characters, use basic chat and try "some generation".

Go here if shaping a character's look and backstory is the fun part for you. How chips are spent is covered in our Lovescape review; start a Lovescape character.

How the five compare

App Free access (official unless noted) Cheapest yearly price Memory Extra currency
Kupid AI 15 messages, 1 companion, no media $179 (Pro) 30 / 100 / unlimited messages by tier Coins
JOI AI Free Basic account, limited non-adult chat (terms: romantic messages cost Neurons) ~$47.99 (third-party) Remembers preferences; "Reset Memory" option Neurons
Ourdream AI None (1 coin per message) $119.88 (Deluxe $359.88) Auto log + 15,000-character pins Coins
Candy AI Short trial only $47.88 Tied to the active chat Tokens
Lovescape Characters, basic chat, some generation Premium $95.88/yr or $19.99/mo at checkout (reports); pricing post $71.88 Advanced memory on Creative PRO only Chips

Checkout screens vary by country and promotion; the price you're shown before paying is the one that counts.

Before you switch

  • Export or screenshot what matters. Kupid's own cancellation screens say created content goes after 30 days.
  • Turn off automatic coin renewal if you enabled it; it's a separate toggle from the subscription.
  • Start the next app on its shortest commitment. Candy's first month or a free JOI or Lovescape account will tell you more than a year's subscription bought on a timer.

FAQ

Not according to its own plan table, which lists 15 messages on the free plan and unlimited messages only on Pro and Ultra. The homepage line is best read as a promotion.

How much does Kupid AI cost per month?
There's no monthly plan. On 5 October 2026 Pro was $12.99 a week or $179 a year, and Ultra $24.99 a week or $299 a year, with a $777 lifetime option.

Can I get a refund from Kupid AI?
Its terms say all digital sales are final and non-refundable. If you live in the EU, check your statutory consumer rights, but don't count on getting money back.

What is the best Kupid AI alternative?
It depends on why you're leaving: JOI AI for a longer free look at non-adult chat, Ourdream AI for memory, Candy AI for visuals and a monthly plan, Lovescape for building characters.

Does Kupid AI remember past conversations?
Within limits. Its table says the free plan remembers the last 30 messages, Pro the last 100, and Ultra has no stated cap. There's no panel to view or edit what it keeps.
