Candy AI Alternatives: Where to Go Based on Why You're Leaving (2026)

Disclosure: I earn a commission if you sign up for Candy AI, Ourdream AI, JOI AI, Lovescape or Kupid AI through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. That includes Candy itself, so weigh my bias accordingly. 18+ only. This guide is research-based: it draws on each app's pricing pages, help centres, terms and published independent reviews and user feedback, rechecked on 5 October 2026 where the official page was reachable. No hands-on testing claims.

Most "Candy AI alternatives" lists rank ten apps and call it done. That isn't much help, because people rarely leave Candy for the same reason. Someone tired of buying tokens needs a different app from someone whose companion keeps forgetting last week's conversation.

So this guide is organised by the reason you're leaving. Find your reason, read the downsides first, then decide.

Stay on Candy AI if visuals are what you came for

Before switching, be honest about what you'd give up. Candy is still the app rivals get measured against for combining chat, pictures, voice messages, beta voice calls, image-to-video, Live Action scenes and Story Mode under one login. Few alternatives match that spread.

The caveat: the subscription is only the entry fee. Premium includes unlimited text chat and 100 tokens a month, and media spends those tokens. Candy doesn't publish per-item token rates on its pricing page; third-party breakdowns estimate about 4 tokens per standard image, so a month's allowance covers roughly 25 pictures.

The price: on 5 October 2026 Candy's subscriptions page showed $47.88 a year ($3.99 a month), $26.97 for three months, or $9.99 for the first month and $13.99 a month after that.

Stay if you mostly chat, generate a modest number of pictures and value having everything in one app. On the annual plan, chat-heavy use is cheap. Our Candy AI review explains the token system in detail, and you can review Candy's current plans here.

Why people leave Candy AI

Going by public reviews and independent write-ups, four complaints come up most:

  1. Token spend. Media costs extra on top of the subscription. One Trustpilot reviewer described spending close to $300 on tokens in a single month, an extreme case that shows how quickly it can add up.
  2. Memory. In an analysis of 100 Trustpilot reviews from February 2026, memory lapses were the most common complaint, even among 5-star reviews.
  3. Little to try before paying. The free option is a trial of a few messages, so there's no way to live with the app before subscribing.
  4. Billing friction. Outside the EU and UK, the refund window is 24 hours and only if you've used 20 tokens or fewer. Public reviews also mention slow support.

The four worth comparing

Each pick below fixes one of those problems and creates at least one new one. None of them is a straight upgrade.

Ourdream AI, if memory is why you're leaving

The downsides first. Ourdream costs more than Candy at both ends: $19.99 a month, or $119.88 a year charged upfront (the "$9.99 a month" figure). Video is its weakest area, with users reporting failed or off-prompt clips, and it is coin-hungry at 100 coins per five seconds. Refunds are tight (none on crypto payments, per third-party write-ups), and reports say your images and videos are blurred after you cancel until you subscribe again. The free option is thin too: the official coin guide says non-subscribers pay 1 coin per message.

Why it fixes the memory problem. Ourdream keeps an automatic memory log that refreshes roughly every 20 AI messages, plus a pinned-memory field you write in yourself (reportedly expanded to 15,000 characters this year). Consistency and long-term recall are what its users praise most in public feedback. Because the log summarises rather than transcribes, pin anything important.

Why it also helps with token anxiety. Its help centre publishes a full coin price list: subscriber chat on the standard models costs 0 coins, an in-chat image 5, two standard images 10 and voice calls 50 a minute. Each plan includes 1,000 coins a month, which third-party maths puts at around 200 standard images.

Go here if you want a companion that remembers your story and you'd rather see every price upfront. Our Ourdream AI review covers the memory tools; see Ourdream AI's plans. Deciding between only Ourdream and Candy? The head-to-head on price, memory and media covers it.

Kupid AI, if you want voice that comes to you

The downsides first. Kupid is the riskiest pick on billing. Its terms say all sales of digital products are final, and stopping rebilling officially means emailing hello@kupid.ai, though there is also a self-serve cancel button. Reviewers say weekly billing is often preselected; over a year, weekly Ultra reportedly costs about €1,299 versus €299 on the yearly plan for the same allowances. The free plan is only 15 messages on Kupid's own plan table (whatever the homepage's "Unlimited Chat for Free" banner suggests), memory is a short rolling window with no editable panel, and video generation is described as unreliable.

Why people switch anyway. Voice. Independent reviews repeatedly put Kupid's voice notes among the best at budget prices, and companions can message you first, voice notes included, when you've been away. Candy offers voice messages and beta live calls (reportedly about 3 tokens a minute), but it doesn't reach out on its own. Kupid also has properly built-out AI boyfriends as well as girlfriends. Paid plans cap voice, photos and video weekly (Pro allowance on Kupid's plan table: 25 photos, 8 videos and 12 minutes of voice per week, at $12.99 a week or $179 a year).

Go here if a good-morning voice note matters more to you than images, and you'll pick the yearly plan deliberately. Start on the free plan (15 messages per Kupid's plan table, checked 5 October 2026), read our Kupid AI review, then try Kupid AI's free chat.

Lovescape, if you want to direct the visuals and keep media costs predictable

The downsides first. Lovescape is a weaker chat companion than Candy. Reviewers describe repetition and memory drift in long sessions, and Lovescape reserves its "advanced AI chat memory" for the $359.88-a-year Creative PRO tier. Video eats chips fast (about 90 chips for a basic five-second clip on one reviewer's account), the prices people see at checkout vary, and one reviewer found the homepage's "Watch live shows" link goes to a separate live-cam site.

Why it fits visual users who left Candy. Lovescape works like a studio built around your character: image generation that most reviewers call its best feature, text-to-video and image-to-video, and paid "Live Cam" style scenes. Its costs are easier to plan than Candy's tokens: Lovescape publishes its chip packs (500 for $9.99 up to 21,000 for $299.99), and reviewers citing its help content say purchased chips never expire. Premium includes 600 chips a month; the pricing post lists $71.88 a year, but recent checkout reports show $95.88 a year or $19.99 a month. One reviewer also rated its voice above Candy's, and an independent billing test found the statement reads "WARMTECH LTD" rather than the brand name.

Go here if making pictures and clips of a custom character is the main event and long conversations are secondary. See our Lovescape review, then look at Lovescape's creator tools.

JOI AI, if you want a similar price with something Candy doesn't have

The downsides first. JOI doesn't solve the extra-currency problem; it moves it. Neurons pay for anything outside the subscription, and JOI's terms list 4 Neurons to read each romantic message, up to 120 to view a photo and up to 1,900 to view a video. Premium also includes a separate Coins balance with no published exchange rate. Prices aren't public, subscriptions are generally non-refundable, voice calls are expensive (reportedly about 2,000 Neurons per five minutes), and your statement shows the Joi domain.

What it offers instead. Creator personas: official AI versions of real creators who licensed their likeness, alongside JOI's own and community-made characters. Third-party reviewers saw annual Premium at $47.99 at checkout in August 2026, close to Candy's $47.88, with roughly 50 image generations and about five Dream Clips a month before Neurons are needed. Its Basic account is free but narrow: JOI's terms put romantic or explicit messages behind Neurons, and the help centre allows 6 image generations per account, so treat it as a preview rather than free adult chat.

Go here if creator personas interest you and you're disciplined about a fixed Neuron budget. Our JOI AI review breaks down the Neuron costs; browse JOI AI's characters.

What the comparison tables leave out

Nobody here has a truly flat price. If you're leaving Candy for a cheaper all-inclusive plan, there isn't one among these four. Every app runs a second currency for media:

App Currency Included each month Smallest pack
Candy AI Tokens 100 100 for $9.99 (third-party)
Ourdream AI Dreamcoins 1,000 1,000 for $11.99 (official)
Lovescape Chips 600 (Premium) 500 for $9.99 (official)
JOI AI Neurons (+ Coins) Allowance-based 500 for $9.99 (third-party)
Kupid AI Coins + weekly caps Weekly allowances About 100 for $9 (third-party)

For chat-only use, Candy's own annual plan is already one of the cheapest options, and Ourdream doesn't charge subscribers for standard chat either. Switching saves money only if media is what's draining you.

Bought currency behaves differently. Lovescape's purchased chips and Kupid's purchased packs don't expire, while Kupid's plan coins expire six months after they're credited, per its terms. Ourdream's help centre says coins don't refresh monthly; subscribers get 1,000 more on each billing anniversary.

Before you cancel Candy

Cancel under My Profile → Settings → Unsubscribe; access lasts until the end of the paid period. Spend or save anything you want to keep before the period ends.
