AI Girlfriend With Memory: Which Apps Remember What, and Where They Forget (2026)

Disclosure: if you subscribe to Candy AI, Ourdream AI, JOI AI, Lovescape or Kupid AI through links in this guide, I earn a commission; Nomi and the other apps named here pay me nothing. For adults (18+) only. Everything below comes from each app's pricing pages, help docs, terms and public user reports, checked October 2026. I have not tested these apps first-hand, so treat nothing here as personal experience.

"She forgot my name again" is probably the most common complaint about AI companions, and it explains why people search for an AI girlfriend with memory at all. The trouble is that "memory" covers at least four different things, and an app that is good at one can be poor at another. This guide sorts the five apps I cover by the kind of remembering you actually care about, and puts the weak spots before the strengths each time.

What "memory" means inside a companion app

Behind the marketing, most companion apps mix four mechanisms:

  • The context window. The language model can only read a limited stretch of recent conversation at once. Anything older falls out of view unless something else carries it forward.
  • Automatic summaries. Some apps periodically compress the chat into a short log, so older events still shape replies. Summaries lose detail by design.
  • Pinned or saved facts. A box or a set of slots where you (or the app) store things that must never be dropped: your name, the relationship so far, the rules of the story.
  • The persona. The character's own definition, which keeps its personality steady even when the facts blur.

Ourdream's official user guide puts the limits honestly: "Memory is guidance, not a database." Even a well-stocked memory can be misread or underweighted, especially when it is long or contradicts itself. Any app promising perfect recall is overselling, so the useful question is which kind of forgetting you can live with.

Need 1: Facts that survive for weeks, and that you can correct

Ourdream AI

The trade-offs. It is not a free way in. Ourdream's help centre says non-subscribers pay one coin per message and that it doesn't hand out free coins (other Ourdream pages say you get 55 coins at sign-up); membership is $19.99 a month or $119.88 a year. The automatic log is a summary, so small early details can fade, and the guide warns that manual edits to that log can be overwritten at the next regeneration. Users also report unreliable video clips.

Where it earns its place. Ourdream documents its memory better than anyone else here. Its guide describes four layers: an Auto Memory Log that regenerates after roughly every 20 AI replies, Pinned Memories holding up to 15,000 characters, Custom Instructions for how the character writes, and a Persona describing you. From Chat settings → Memory you can view the log, force a rebuild after a correction, pause updates or unlock it for editing. The guide even suggests a layout for pinned notes: core rules, current state, character anchors, open threads. Public feedback ranks memory as the platform's most-praised feature.

Go here if you want to see what the companion remembers, fix it when it slips, and keep a story coherent over many sessions. Our Ourdream AI review covers the coin prices in detail, or see Ourdream AI's memory tools and plans.

Not affiliated: Nomi also builds its pitch around long-term memory with one ongoing companion; compare it if Ourdream's coins put you off.

Need 2: A character who stays in character

JOI AI

The trade-offs. JOI doesn't publish plan prices before sign-up, so cost figures are third-party: reviewers at checkout in August 2026 reported annual Premium at $47.99. Extras are paid in Neurons, and its terms list up to 120 for opening a photo and up to 1,900 for a video. One reviewer credits Premium with an "8,000-message smart memory"; I couldn't find that number on any JOI page, so treat it as unconfirmed.

Where it earns its place. JOI's own pages promise that companions remember preferences and past talks and adapt to your tone, and independent reviewers single out the Premium "Saturn" model as the one that holds a personality best. Creator personas give each character a fixed, well-defined identity to anchor to. JOI's help centre also describes a "Reset Memory" option in chat settings for when a character starts repeating itself or drifting off-script.

Go here if a steady voice and personality matter more to you than an editable fact sheet, and you'll set a Neuron budget before spending. Our JOI AI review lists what Neurons buy; you can start a free JOI AI Basic account to judge the everyday writing first, though its terms charge Neurons for romantic or explicit messages, so the free tier won't show you the adult side.

Need 3: Memory alongside pictures and voice

Candy AI: the visuals pick

The trade-offs. Be clear-eyed about memory here. Candy's help centre states that it has no option to clear chat history while keeping long-term memory: resetting or deleting a chat removes that conversation's memory with it, and detailed recall is "generally tied to the active chat itself." In a February 2026 analysis of 100 Trustpilot reviews, memory lapses were the top complaint, even among five-star reviewers. Premium Plus adds 20 memory slots and user personas, but the subscriptions page I checked didn't show a Premium Plus price. The other catch is tokens: Premium includes 100 a month, and images, voice and video all draw from that allowance, so a heavy media month means buying more.

Where it earns its place. If you want the companion to look and sound like a consistent person, Candy bundles chat, image generation, voice messages and video in one subscription, and text chat itself doesn't cost tokens. On 5 October 2026 the subscriptions page showed $9.99 for the first month (then $13.99), $26.97 for three months and $47.88 for a year, about $3.99 a month.

Go here if visuals and voice come first and you're willing to repeat key facts now and then, or pay for the memory slots. The token mechanics are explained in our Candy AI review and the longer GitBook Candy AI breakdown; check Candy AI's current plans. If memory turns out to be a deal-breaker later, our guide to leaving Candy for an app that fits better maps the options.

Need 4: Long story arcs and deep context

Lovescape

The trade-offs. This is the expensive route. Lovescape's own February 2026 pricing post lists "Advanced AI chat memory" only on Creative PRO, billed $359.88 a year; Premium doesn't include it. Reviewers describe repetition and drift in long sessions, and one review quotes the help centre warning that a character "may not recall" a topic left untouched for a while.

Where it earns its place. Lovescape pitches Creative PRO's memory as "better memory depth" so companions can sustain "longer, more complex relationship arcs", and the tier bundles 3,000 chips a month plus watermark-free downloads. If you generate heavily anyway, the memory upgrade rides along with that spending.

Go here if you design characters, produce a lot of visuals and want those characters to carry long storylines, and the annual Creative PRO price doesn't scare you. Our Lovescape review breaks down chips; explore Lovescape's character studio.

Need 5: Casual daily chat where short recall is fine

Kupid AI

The trade-offs. Kupid is the weakest rememberer here. Its own plan table puts memory at the last 30 messages on free and the last 100 on Pro, and lists Ultra as unlimited; reviewers still report drift after a few weeks, and there is no memory panel to edit. Its site lists "Longtime chat memory" among the features a subscriber loses on cancelling, which confirms that durable recall sits behind payment. Its terms treat every digital purchase as final, the free plan stops at 15 messages, and reviewers say weekly billing is often preselected.

Where it earns its place. Voice and casual chat. Kupid's homepage advertised "Unlimited Chat for Free" on 5 October 2026, but its plan table caps the free plan at 15 messages, so treat free as a short sample; paid plans centre on voice notes that reviewers like. For light, everyday conversation, a short memory matters far less.

Go here if you want relaxed daily chat with voice notes, are fine paying after a 15-message free sample, and don't need the companion to recall last month. Read our Kupid AI review before choosing a billing period, then sign up for Kupid AI's free chat.

How to check an app's memory in your first week

A cheap check, no one's word required:

  1. In the first session, state three specific facts: a name, a date, a preference.
  2. Chat about something else for fifty or more messages, then ask about all three.
  3. Come back the next day and ask again in a new session.
  4. Correct one fact deliberately and see whether the correction sticks.

Passing step 2 means a decent context window or summary; passing steps 3 and 4 means real long-term memory. Run it on the cheapest plan before paying for a year. If budget is the bigger worry, our breakdown of how much each companion app gives away for nothing helps, and our piece on why "free" chat tiers forget so quickly explains how context limits work on SpicyChat-style plans. Leaving Chai because bots loop the same lines? Apps like Chai by reason for leaving pairs that complaint with memory-first and character-first options.

A word on privacy

Whatever the companion remembers sits on the provider's servers. Ourdream's guide says not to put passwords, payment details or other sensitive data into character memory, which is good advice everywhere. Know how to wipe it, too: JOI uses "Reset Memory", and on Candy, resetting or deleting a chat clears its memory along with the history.

FAQ

Which AI girlfriend app has the best memory?
Going by its documentation and public feedback, Ourdream AI, because you can view and edit both its automatic memory log and up to 15,000 characters of pinned facts.

Does Candy AI remember previous conversations?
Within the active chat, yes. Its help centre says resetting or deleting a chat removes that chat's memory, and Premium Plus adds 20 memory slots.

Is there a free AI girlfriend with long-term memory?
Not really. Durable memory usually sits on paid tiers: Kupid lists longtime memory as a paid perk, Lovescape keeps its advanced memory for Creative PRO, and Ourdream charges non-subscribers per message.

Why does my AI companion forget things?
Older messages fall outside the model's context window, and summaries compress them. Pinning key facts and keeping them short and non-contradictory helps most.

Can I delete what an AI companion remembers about me?
Usually yes. JOI offers "Reset Memory", Candy clears memory when you reset or delete a chat, and Ourdream lets you edit or pause its memory log.
