Is Kupid AI Safe and Legit in 2026? Refunds, Six-Year Data Retention and What "100% Anonymous" Really Covers

Before you read: Charles produced a first draft using an AI assistant and then verified every claim against Kupid's own Terms of Service (revision dated 10/08/2026), its Privacy Policy (revision dated 02/05/2023), its pricing page, the text built into its account and checkout screens, and the Cyprus company register, all read on 7 October 2026. It is a paperwork review, not months of hands-on use. Each of the five brand links is an affiliate link, which pays us a commission on purchases without changing your price. Strictly 18+.

Searches for "is Kupid AI safe" or "is Kupid AI legit" boil down to three questions: who runs it, what happens to your chats, and how hard it is to stop paying. Short answer: Kupid AI is a real product run by a registered Cyprus company, so "scam" is the wrong word, but so is "low-risk". The refund rule is close to absolute, the privacy policy predates half the features, data can be kept for years, and the "100% anonymous" banner promises more than the legal documents do. Weak spots first.

The weak spots, in order of how much they can cost you

1. Money paid is money gone

The refund section of the Terms leaves almost no room: every digital sale is "final and non-refundable", refunds are refused "for any reason", and none apply to subscriptions that have been accessed or used. No cooling-off window is written in. The few exceptions live in the app's screens, not the contract: a $0.50 card-verification charge on trials is refunded immediately, a failed photo can be retried free or its coins returned, and coins held for a video come back for seconds never delivered. EU and UK buyers may have statutory rights the Terms ignore, but you would be arguing with a Cyprus company under Cypriot law.

2. Cancelling has three routes, depending on how you paid

To stop rebilling, the Terms still point you to hello@kupid.ai by email. Yet the account area has a self-serve Manage subscription → Cancel subscription button, and the confirmation text says access continues until the paid period ends. PayPal and Patreon subscriptions are managed on those sites. Worth memorising: deleting your Kupid account does not cancel a Patreon subscription; you must end that one yourself.

Expect retention offers on the way out (a week at 75% off, a week free, or a drop from Ultra to Pro); accepting one changes what you pay next.

3. A privacy policy from 2023 governing a 2026 product

The Privacy Policy carries the revision date 2 May 2023. It describes an app that makes "images and messages"; the video clips, voice notes and Patreon or Discord sign-in offered today go unmentioned, and a stray company name, "Usway", in the marketing clause shows it began as a template.

The retention clause matters more: Kupid says it usually stores personal information for six years after your account is closed. The login screen fits that: an email whose account "has been deleted previously" gets an offer to reactivate it, so the address at least stays on file.

4. Your chats are "typically confidential", not sealed

Section 5.4 of the Terms describes conversations with the AI companions as "typically confidential", then explains that automated moderation scans them and that flagged content "may undergo manual review" by people, with suspension or termination possible. The Privacy Policy separately mentions a "moderation team" checking compliance with the law. Section 1.3 is blunter: Kupid admits it cannot guarantee the security of what you share in chats, and asks users to keep bank details, home addresses, contact data and passwords out of them.

Anything you upload also comes with a wide licence. Section 4 hands Kupid a worldwide, royalty-free licence it may transfer or sub-license, covering use, copying, editing and public display of your uploads. Deleting the content or account ends it, unless Kupid or a partner already used it in commercial or sponsored material.

5. The marketing badges say more than the contract

The pricing page leads with "100% anonymous" and checkout promises "Your data is 100% protected". The Privacy Policy lists name, date of birth, IP address, location, browser and usage data, plus inputs from Google Analytics, ad networks and search-information providers. With your email, payment record and chats on file, Kupid is not anonymous in any technical sense.

Billing is more discreet than that: a badge says "No adult transaction in bank statement", and checkout says the charge appears as "Kupid AI", which names no adult service but is recognisable to anyone who knows the brand.

6. Free coins expire; bought coins do not

Coins you did not buy (plan allowances, trial, promotional or gifted) lapse six months from the day they land in your account, and lapsed coins vanish without compensation. Coins from packs you buy outright do not expire, and the soonest-to-expire coins are always spent first.

7. Cyprus law, Cypriot courts, and a liability shield

Disputes go to Cypriot courts under Cypriot law "regardless of your location", an all-capitals liability clause disclaims almost any loss, and fees or features may change "at any time for any reason", with new Terms applying once posted.

8. A thin, mostly negative public track record

Kupid's Trustpilot page holds about 14 reviews; Everlusty (August 2026) counted 2.2 out of 5 from 13, CompanionWise (April) 3.0 from 14. Recurring complaints: memory that slips, characters switching mood mid-scene, "unlimited" plans that still need coins, and slow support. CompanionWise's own safety index gave Kupid an F (22/100), citing six-year retention, self-declared age checks and no crisis resources; one outlet's method, but its points match the documents.

9. Look-alike sites claim things the real one does not

Searching the brand also turns up kupid-ai.com, whose footer calls it "an independent affiliate partner page" and which says Kupid is "available on web, iOS and Android". A US App Store search on 7 October found no app called Kupid AI; the real site is a web app. (We are affiliates too.) Type kupid.ai yourself before paying, and distrust any store app unless the developer is clearly SNB Technologies.

What speaks for Kupid being legit

  • A registered company. Kupid's footer, Terms and Privacy Policy name SNB Technologies LTD (registered address in Nicosia, company no. 447805) as owner and payment processor. The Cyprus register lists SNB Technologies LTD, HE 447805, as an active private limited company registered on 6 June 2023.
  • Published contact routes with deadlines. support@kupid.ai for billing and violations, hello@kupid.ai for rebilling, complaints@kupid.ai with a promise to resolve complaints within seven business days, and appeals@kupid.ai, including for people depicted in content who want it removed, with a neutral party for unresolved disagreements. Chats have a Report Message button.
  • Real deletion controls. A Delete Account button, deletable chats and models, and a cancel option labelled "Cancel and delete my data". Cancel screens also warn that long-term chat memory is deleted 30 days after cancelling, with a $3.99-a-month offer to keep it (I could not tell who sees that screen).
  • GDPR-style rights. Access, rectification, restriction, erasure and withdrawal of consent, with a target response time of one month. No sale of personal data without consent, breach notices where the law requires them, and no reported Kupid breach that I could find.
  • Adults only, on paper. Section 2.2 requires users to be 18 or the local age of majority; clicking Submit at checkout counts as confirming it. I found no ID-based check described.

What it costs, in plain numbers (7 October 2026)

Plan Weekly billing Yearly billing What the plan table lists
Free — — 15 messages
Pro $12.99 $179 25 photos, 8 videos and 12 min of voice per week; memory of the last 30 messages
Ultra $24.99 $299 75 photos, 25 videos and 35 min of voice per week; memory of the last 100 messages
Lifetime — $777 once one-time payment

There is no monthly plan, and the countdown banners ("-75% for Premium Today!") change the headline price, so read the line that says what you will actually be billed. Payment options include card, PayPal, Patreon and crypto (Bitcoin, Ether and others). Ultra yearly is about $5.75 a week, charged as $299 up front.

Seven ways to use Kupid with less risk

  1. Use an email kept only for apps like this; skip linking Google, Discord or Patreon.
  2. Start weekly and set a reminder a day before renewal.
  3. Screenshot plan, price and billing period before you submit.
  4. Switch off automatic coin renewal and spend free coins inside six months.
  5. Never type your real name, employer or address, and never upload pictures of actual people.
  6. Paid via Patreon or PayPal? Cancel there first, then delete the Kupid account.
  7. Send erasure requests to support@kupid.ai, keep the reply, allow a month.

Kupid and the four other brands we cover

Kupid AI. Strongest on voice notes and companions who message first; weakest on refunds and retention. The plan-by-plan detail sits in our Medium guide to Kupid's Free, Pro and Ultra plans and our Kupid AI review on Mataroa. Go here if you want voice and are happy to start on a weekly plan you can drop. Open Kupid AI

Candy AI. My pick for visuals, with the most capable photo and short-video tools of the five; a year of Premium is $47.88 on its subscriptions page. The caveat: Premium comes with only 100 tokens a month, pictures and clips burn through them quickly, and Candy's own Terms and help centre contradict each other about unused tokens after you cancel. Its privacy and billing terms get the same scrutiny in this Candy AI safety review. Go here if images are the main reason you are shopping. Try Candy AI

Ourdream AI. Publishes its full price list (Premium is $19.99 monthly, or $119.88 paid yearly) with Dreamcoins bundled. Its contract has its own trade-offs, set out in our Ourdream AI safety guide. Go here if you want monthly billing instead of weekly. See Ourdream AI

JOI AI. A big library of pre-built characters, and its age verification stores no ID copy, though its Terms give JOI ownership of characters you create. We went through those rules in Is JOI AI safe?. Go here if you prefer finished characters to building your own. Visit JOI AI

Lovescape. Its chips never expire (they are not refundable either) and charges carry a neutral descriptor, but its legal pages are dated and partly templated; see our Lovescape safety guide. Go here if you want paid credits that do not run out. Check Lovescape

Still deciding? The GitBook hub with all five reviews puts them side by side, and our list of where to go when Kupid's free chat runs short covers rivals beyond these five.

FAQ

Is Kupid AI legit or a scam?
Legit in the legal sense. SNB Technologies LTD is an active, registered Cyprus company that names itself as operator and payment processor. The complaints online are about value, memory and billing, not about money vanishing with nothing delivered.

Is Kupid AI safe to use?
Reasonably, if you treat it as a service that keeps and may review what you write. Flagged chats can be read by people, so keep identifying details out and assume payments won't come back.

Does Kupid AI give refunds?
Its Terms say no, for any reason, once a purchase is delivered or used. The exceptions in the app are small: the $0.50 card-check hold, failed photos and undelivered video seconds.

How do I delete my Kupid data?
Use Delete Account in your profile or the "cancel and delete my data" option, and email support@kupid.ai for a formal erasure request. Cancel any Patreon or PayPal subscription separately, and keep in mind the policy's usual six-year retention after closure.
